Back in April of 2011, I was asked by film maker Gorman Bechard to be a part of a project he was working on. I was to do a photo shoot with actress Lynn Mancinelli for a film called The Broken Side of Time. Gorman's idea had been born from the proliferation of internet modeling websites since the late 90's. There was to be no script and there was just a loose plan at the time. So I went in without a plan either. I figured I'd just show up and see what they brought for wardrobe and just shoot. When I met Lynn the day we filmed, she told me, "I'm not really a model". I replied, "You're an actress, so just act like a model" and we laughed a little nervously. Well, two hours and 753 images later....... What an actress! What a blast.
The film premiered at the Tribecca Fim Fest in NYC last Friday - June 28th. I drove down early and wandered around Tribecca checking out a number of pubs with 'Wall Streeters' and various film crews who were working in the neighborhoods. I caught dinner and the premier with an artist friend who had transplanted to the city a few years back. We were both pretty amazed by the brave, gutsy performance by Lynn and also to find out that it was a debut of Adria Ayers as an actress. Wow. It was great seeing the work of fellow pro photographers from the east coast to the mid-west and some pretty funny actors doing their best "GWC" performances. Looking forward to more film projects down the road.
